Second place went to Hot Fuzz with a very respectable 676,000 units you must remember, this is a film that only cost 8 million Pounds to make, roughly, which is about $17 million American. Its opening week sales of $115 million was double the rest of the top 30. The battle for first place wasn't even close, though, asģ00 made a dominant debut, selling 5.10 million units, which was 2 million more than the rest of the top 30 combined. New releases made their presence felt this week, earning five spots on the DVD sales chart, including the first two places. This works out to $149.82 million in total sales, which is close to the film's entire theatrical haul. This should really surprise no one as it has been tough this year for any DVD to move more than 1 million units in a single week, and with first week sales of more than 5 million units, even a sharp drop-off would leave 300 in first place.Īnd it did have a sharp drop-off, down more than 70% to 1.50 million units sold this week for a total of 6.60 million after two. Wild Hogs led a healthy group of new releases to win the race on the DVD sales chart with 2.20 million units sold and $35.16 million in first week sales.ĭVD Rentals - Disturbing News on the Rental Chartsĭisturbia led a large group of new releases and took first place on the rental charts with $9.70 million in rentals.ĭVD Sales - 300 Does Double Duty at Number Oneĭespite a busy week for new releases, 300 was able to stay on top of the DVD sales chart. This includes Live Free or Die Hard in first place with 2.06 million units sold and $35.11 million in total sales.ĭVD Sales - Blades Glide into First Place New releases were not plentiful on the sales chart this week, but they dominated the top five by taking three spots. Add in the Spanish language edition and there are five versions of the former movie coming out this week, including the 3-Disc DVD and the 3-Disc Blu-ray, either one of which is worthy of the DVD Pick of the Week. According to Amazon, seven of the top ten releases come from two movies: WALL-E and Tropic Thunder. It's a weird week for the DVD release report. If I were forced to choose just one to buy, it would probably be Coraline, but all three are DVD Picks of the Week. The Watchmen and Coraline Blu-ray releases are both worth picking up, and must-haves for their fans.Īlso in the mix is The Middleman - The Complete Series, which despite its short run packs a lot of entertainment. Two of the most anticipated home market releases of the summer come out this week, and both of them are contenders for DVD Pick of the Week.
